Şcoala cu clasele I-VIII nr. 87 “Mihai Botez” from Bucharest, Romania provides education to 716 students aged 7 to 14.

Pupils follow the National Curriculum, but in addition to that parents may request that their children study computer, latin dances or practise martial arts. We also provide the opportunity to study English since the first grade. Besides subject skills, our pupils learn important social skills through guided play, drama, art and crafts activities.

Our institution is situated in an area with a high unemployment rate. 10% of our students belong to very poor families. These categories of pupils have difficulties in learning and establishing inter-personal relationships. They are at risk of failing or even dropping-out.

Partner school "La Giustiniana", located in a middle class area in the northern part of Rome, has 831 pupils currently on role, (455 attending Primary School, 376 attending the First Grade of Higher School) including immigrant pupils, children with special needs and underprivileged students. This area has quickly developed in the last few years with new block of flats but, except for the school, there are few meeting and entertainment places for our students.

The partner school Istituto Comprensivo "Pinna Parpaglia" di Pozzomaggiore (SS) Sardinia, Italy is divided into 8 little schools located in 4 different little counties (Pozzomaggiore, Padria, Mara and Cossoine) in a rural, deprived area of northern Sardinia, with a high unemployment rate, mainly female. The whole school has 387 pupils (103 attending nursery school, 143 the primary school and 120 the higher school), aged 3-14. In the school there are 15% of children with learning difficulties and 7 disabled children. The National tests put in evidence some aspects below average, particularly in the mother tongue (reading and writing) and in Mathematics. Most curricula do not provide the opportunity for children's voices to be heard and acted on.

Our school is located in Orzesze, a town in the southern edge of Silesian’s Upland. Many people decide to settle in our town because of its nice surrounding and quietness. Our pupils derive from different culture groups – a small town and a big agglomeration, some of them live in an orphanage. We have to make a lot of efforts to build understanding among those groups. We focus on promoting positive behaviour and high self esteem. Providing a friendly atmosphere we develop social interaction skills and teach our pupils how to be sensitive to the needs of others.

Liceul Teoretic “Eugen Lovinescu” is one of the most important educational units of urban district 6, comprising about 1,200 students of all pre-university levels: from primary to secondary school. We are located in Drumul Taberei–Ghencea area, one of the typical outskirts of Bucharest inhabited by people of rather modest means, who cannot afford to invest much in the education of their children. Due to the descending curve of employment and workplace availabilities, the social status of families has dropped in recent years, not only in Bucharest, but also in the villages nearby, from which our schools absorb a significant percentage of their students. Therefore, the number of students with special needs has grown notably of late. The financial collapse of the average family and the lack of professional perspectives discourage the youth to regard school as a guarantee of social success.

Our school is located near the city centre and it is one of the biggest school in our town. The majority of our children come from quite well situated families (middle class). We also have children from low social class, but we offer them financial help from school funds. Children with special needs (learning difficulties) are integrated in our school system; they benefit from special assistance and extra help. Our school is well-equipped for disabled children.

Our city, Kayseri, one of the most important trade center in Anatolia is located in the middle of Turkey. It's a modern, busy city witch has a strong traditional, historical atmosphere. As a trade and industry center, many people from the eastern part of the country as well as from the other cities in the region which are socio-economically less developed migrate to Kayseri to have better conditions, as the city is one of the biggest industrial areas in Turkey.

The school, located in the city centre, has 600 students from 13 to 18 years old. Our school is considered one of the three most prestigious public general schools in the region, as all our students go to university after graduating, so we have students form other cities, too. Our students are selected by a central examination, so we have pupils with a high academic and intellectual knowledge, but from different socio-economic status. On the other hand, they have different skills, interests and abilities.
