Curriculum

I am Professor of Educational Studies in the University of Oxford.

My research includes studies on the development of literacy and mathematics learning, covering a diversity of themes such as children's awareness of morphemes and its relationship to spelling and vocabulary acquisition, cross-linguistic studies of spelling development, the impact of cultural practices on mathematical competence, children's understanding of fractions and intensive quantities.

I have also worked with deaf children as a special group of learners, both in the domain of literacy and mathematics.

Publications include many journal articles and the books _Street Mathematics, School Mathematics _(CUP; with a Spanish version _En la Vida Diez, en la Escuela, Zero_; Siglo Veintiuno), _Children doing Mathematics _(Blackwell; in Spanish: _Las / /__Matemáticas y su Applicación: La perspectiva del niño_, Siglo Veintiuno Editores); _Teaching Mathematics to Deaf Children_ (Whurr Press), and _Improving Literacy through teaching Morphemes_ (Routledge).
