I am Professor of Educational Studies in the University of
                  Oxford.
My research includes studies on the development of literacy
and mathematics learning, covering a diversity of themes such
as children's awareness of morphemes and its relationship to
spelling and vocabulary acquisition, cross-linguistic studies
of spelling development, the impact of cultural practices on
mathematical competence, children's understanding of fractions
                  and intensive quantities.
I have also worked with deaf children as a special group of
learners, both in the domain of literacy and mathematics.
